Response to : Earthquake!

31 10 2007

Just finished moving furniture in my bedroom around so that it is more earthquake-safe. Before this, I had my floor lamp on one side of my bed and a bookshelf on the other. Both of them are now far from my bed. Paranoid? Better play safe.

Earthquake!

30 10 2007

Apparently, an earthquake happened at 8:04:54 PM(PDT) around around my area just now. I was showering and did not realize anything until Kenneth told me. At first, I thought it was a very minor one since I did not feel any tremor. Maybe Kenneth was exaggerating leh. But, Yee Lin confirm that it was quite bad at Santa Clara. Her friend told her that his dishes fell! Scary.. :S

Halloween Party

29 10 2007

Friends organized Halloween party last weekend. In conclusion, Halloween party = Picture taking session :)

Surprisingly, the guys were more dressed up than the girls. Some of the guys even have a FULL mask! ( face + wig). Hmm, must be quite uncomfortable and hot. Face itchy or not? Some guys even experimented with make-up! Unlike girls, they make-up so that they look ugly.

Although Halloween is suppose to be scary and spooky, but generally girls take the opportunity to dressed up prettily and/or cute. Anything other than scary. All the girls at that party looked far from scary. Even the witch looked pretty.

I dressed up as a cow-gal. Nothing too fancy. Far from scary :)

Haunted House

29 10 2007

A big group went to Haunted House in Fremont 2 weeks ago. About 40-ish of us went together as a group. Like a rombongan. That was the first time of me going to a Haunted House for Halloween so I was pretty excited although I do not fancy scary stuffs.

There were 6 different houses altogether. The houses has different levels are scary-ness. The first house was the least scary. It was also a bit high-tech. In one of those houses, a glasses was provided so that you can see some of the stuffs in 3-D! As expected, I closed my eyes/look in the floor most of the time while I was in those houses. :0 At first, someone suggested going to the corn maze after that, but it wasn’t brought up again as the weather was very chilly. Hopefully, i can go next time. That would be fun!

Exercise? No Problem

24 10 2007

After going to the health fair , I am extremely concern on how much time I spent exercising. So, starting from today, I’ll climb to my floor using stairs instead of elevator. My cubicle is on the 7th floor. which is good. Not too high that my colleagues think that I have asthma after completing the feat, nor too low that I do not feel that I am exercising. So, including lunch breaks, that’s 14 floors a day! I feel so healthy now :) zetian, I am smart hor? Those who lead a sedentary lifestyle, you guys should try too!

Earring Holder

23 10 2007

Do you have problems with cluttered earrings, finding hard to find earrings that you want and you even forget what earrings you have? Worry no more! I went to YL’s place last weekend and I saw the perfect solution for keeping earrings. She used a sushi mat. Since I do not have a sushi mat, I used a face towel. Sushi mat looks classier though.

Earring 1 Earring 2

I bought the earring holder(right) because it looks nice. However, I stopped using it not long after I bought it as it is not stable, always falling off and it is too small. Not too mention pricey! You should try using the sushi mat/towel method to hold your earrings! Can be a piece of deco too! Hmm, looks like I have to buy more earrings to fill the spaces up :)

Parents trip in US : Part 3

23 10 2007

May 21 : Washington DC, here we come!

So, a day after graduation, we left for DC early in the morning! It was very tiring, last minute packing and cleaning the apartment. But, I was EXCITED! :)

We flew with, hmm.., let me see, 5 luggage and 2 backpacks. I think it was okay, until my roommate’s mum saw us at the hallway and said, “Wah, you are taking all those luggage with you?”. Now, maybe taking all those luggage with me was not a good idea. I have no choice ma. Most of the stuffs are to be left at home, so I have to pack them in the luggage.

I encountered the first inconvenience of bringing too many luggage while traveling was transportation. We took some time finding the best algorithm to fit the luggage in the cab. Plus, got extra charge somore.

- ALEXANDRIA –

After reaching our hotel, I soon learned that it is a good idea to travel light if there is not any elevator in the hotel. My strong dad had to carry all those luggage up. Not an easy job! Until today, my dad was convinced that it was this incident which caused him to have quite a severe leg muscle pain. I still think that it was caused by all the walkings.

I booked a hotel in Alexandria because the price was relatively cheaper than hotels in DC. Alexandria is listed on the National Register of Historic Places so that would be interesting. Plus the Metro station was within walking distance. We can also visit one extra town! :) The hotel is about 7 miles from the attractions in DC. We walked around the charming Old Town Alexandria. There are many fine restaurants, interesting shops and also museums in that area.

Along King Street. Down memory lane with pavement made of bricks! There are also Queen Street, Princess Street and Prince Street, Duke Street

Old Town. Shop selling wigs for men and also … mustache??

- WASHINGTON DC –

Most of the attractions in DC are very near each each other so that is good for us because we did not rent a car. We took two days to cover this area.

Health and Wellness Fair

18 10 2007

The most interesting event today is health and wellness fair at my workplace!

And I got a lot of goodies! Like a career fair, companies and organizations set up booths and give away goodies. You can also enter raffles and play games to win something. But, the goodies at this health fair are really useful and interesting!

HealthFair

….Goodies…

These are some stuffs which come in handy but are not necessary. (okay, exclude the apple)

My fingers are experiencing some cramps and viola! … I got this squezzy thing to exercise my fingers. Perfect!

I have been contemplating if I should get a tumbler and now I own one.

There is also this hot/cold pack which I won from playing this wheel game.All I have to do is to answer the question given which is “What are the 7 types of food?” , and they even help you if you can’t get the correct answer. How easy is that? The hot/cold pack will surely come in handy.

The is also this glasses repair kit, which consist of a very tiny screwdriver and another gadget which I have no idea what it is, but the screwdriver is useful!

Then, I also got this cool key chain which also has a compass built-in. This is exceptionally handy if you wanna check the feng shui of your room/house .. Haha

On top of that, I had my glucose and cholesterol screening. These are the types of stuff which you know are important to do, but you may procrastinate them because they are inconvenient. For your information, Long Drugs charge a fee of $12 for glucose and $14 for cholesterol screening, and I did it FOC.

The lady at the counter also said I should exercise at half and hour 5 times a week or 1 hour 3 times a week. I usually exercise once a week, so…. does this mean I have to do it for 3 hours?? :o

LOVE <3

17 10 2007

Love is a very interesting subject. Everyone wants to be loved. Who doesn’t? You feel blissful, appreciated, more confident and happier. Not only that, sometimes, you will strive to be a better person, not just for the person you love, but just simply because you feel motivated to be a better person and to feel good about yourself. However, love is not always wonderful. There will be heartaches and heartbreaks.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I asked some of my friends to choose which scenario they would prefer to be in.
Senario 1
Your spouse has a lover but you never found out. You always thought s/he is loyal and loving. You have always been happy and contented without realizing that s/he main kayu tiga.
Senario 2
Your spouse loves you and is loyal. However s/he is not expressive and does not satisfy your emotional need. You always feel something is lacking in the relationship.
Interestingly, 99% would choose scenario 1, including me! Interesting, right? As long as we are happy, we do not care what actually happened. Maybe it is true that some secret is better left unspoken. What about the aged old adage “Honesty is the best policy”? Maybe honesty is NOT the best policy. But then if we always lie just to make the situation more agreeable and to avoid conflicts, then what would the relationship based on? Just lies?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And then there are many type of relationships.

1. The Perfect :

This is the perfect relationship, where the couple loves one another and are very compromising, like my parents! They are really loving, and they still hold hands! :P I think usually this is the case for relationships.

2. The Dominating :

This is where one of them are dominating. Usually decisions will be made by the dominating person, from important to trivial decisions such as where to eat and what to do. Although you may think that this relationship is unhealthy, well think again. It is just the unique characteristic of the relationship. Both of them may really love one another and the person who is dominated does not mind. However, if one person is unhappy because the other is dominating, well, then that’s different.

3. The Unsure :

This is the case where one/both of the persons in the relationship are still keeping their options open although they are in a relationship. This usually only happens to unmarried couples of course. In this case, although he/she is in a relationship with a person, but s/he or does not see it as a long term relationship. S/he is still watching out for a better/more compatible companion. I think it is okay if both of the people in the relationship have this outlook. However, if only one of them is thinking this way, the other one better be prepared.

4. The In Between :

And then there are relationships which has more than one of the characteristics I just mentioned.

I L O V E my family and my dear friends!
