Balanced diet

29 01 2008

Talking about desserts, I have to eat some junk food everyday. There is a continuous supply of either brownies, peanuts, pringles, red bean, green bean, ice-cream or jello at home. If I do not eat some junkies for a day, I feel like sth is missing. Have    to     eat    junk   food.

To balance out this bad eating habit, I eat fruits everyday. The most significant change in my diet is that I started eating brown rice! Fills me up real well and healthier too! :)

Want to share with you this recipe blog. Great simple recipes. Just tried cooking the chicken claypot rice today. Delicious and easy!

Dental Checkup

29 01 2008

Went for a dental checkup today. Always thought that my teeth is in a good condition : given that I brush, floss and sometimes rinse! Not everyone floss, rite? In the beginning, the dentist asked about my teeth-cleaning habits and after listening to me, she said, “Good good”. :) But, after cleaning my teeth and looking at the X-rays, I need 3 fillings and 1 onlay (have to grind half my tooth off and place sth on top of it)! More dentist appointments! She started asking me if If I brush my teeth frequently, if I like sweet stuffs, if I like soda, coffee or tea…   So my teeth is stained too? Have to start looking out for teeth whitening products! Okay, I am a coffee addict and a dessert lover. :)

Car, room, dog, hair

26 01 2008

For those who have not seen my car before , ta – da!  2002 Mazda Protege. And I really love the color. Aquamarine!  It is really practical ler. Easy to spot your car! I am not too worry about not being able to find my car in the parking lot.  It also has a moonroof! Cool ley. The moonroof was not our consideration at all when choosing the car la. I got a fair price. :) I like this car, but it does not have a good mileage ler. And now gas is so expensive sumore. ~ $ 3. 3++ per gallon?! Thanks to Ze Tian who really helped a lot when we just came here. He became our drebar and … he is very resourceful ( information, $$$) . Hehe.

Went to Stanford Shopping Center about 2 weeks ago. Its like KLCC in Malaysia. High class place to shop. There were Coach, Louis Vuitton etc. One common trait I found in people who buy LV like I buy tau fu fah is, their hair pong pong, like they just did this

FluffyHair

Very nice, volumnious and shiny. When I step into LV, almost all the potential customer has pong pong hair! Left and right almost all of them have pong pong hair. I am amazed! I guess this hairstyle makes you look more sophisticated and classy. Certainly need time to achieve the desired result. Maybe they go to saloons to set their hair? I would like to do that, but my hair is fine and flat. Any tips?

——————————————————————-

Secondly, I realise that those who are rich usually have a pair of dogs. In the shopping center, almost all of the patrons there have dogs have two dogs. Sweet, right? At least the dogs have company.

It is nice that dogs are allowed to go into shops. I like to look at all those cute doggies! But I reckon you not to go too near to surfaces which are not 180 degrees with reference to the floor. I saw a dog marking its territory at the base of a shelf in a Sony shop!

 Yucks! So not cute!

Went through my pictures and I found this!

CurlyHair

I curl my hair in 2005. My mum said I looked matured with curly hair. My Chien looks great with curly hair though. Not fair! :P I never did have the chance to take any other picture with my hair still curly except for this trip. Coz I am too lazy to maintain my hair. Apply stuffs, etc were too troublesome. Soon, my hair was too messy so I need to cut it short :(

Dilly Dally

22 01 2008

After reading Angels and Demons, I rushed to the library to borrow other books written by Dan Brown. I really love his books! Very interesting and intelligent. Happily, I brought home Deception Point and Digital Fortress :) I prefer Deception Point to Digital Fortress, but both were good! *Ah … Satisfaction*

Went to Gilroy for shopping with my partner-in-crime, Yee Lin. I was suppose to *accompany* her as she wanted to get some stuff for her friend. I ended up buying some tops …..so worth it okay! Only 5 bucks per top! FIVE BUCKS! Seldom see such great deals.

On Sunday, I went to Stanford University for sight seeing. :) The buildings were really beautiful! I was impressed! When I first saw CMU campus, I was shocked as it was quite small. The first thought that came into my mind was “It is like my high school!” Okay, to be fair, CMU is a bit larger than my high school la. Anyways,on the positive side, I can easily walk from one class to the other although the classes were on the different end of the campus. I am a proud CMU alumni, okay!  I have every reason to be impressed by the size of Stanford. CMU is 0.57 km² compared to Stanford’s 33.1 km². …!!!….So HUGE!  .Stanford University is a tourist site. It even have its own church and also museum, the Cantor Arts Center! I am going back to Stanford U. next time as I did not manage to check out all the places there.

Animal Rescue

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple… Please tell ten friends
to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting
enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food
donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute (How about 5 seconds) to go to their site and
click on the purple box “fund food for animals” for free. This doesn’t cost you a thing.
Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily
visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.
Please take 5 seconds from your daily, busy schedule and visit the website
and click on the purple box and that will help feed neglected, homeless and
abused animals.

Here’s the web site! Just click it. Then pass it along to people you know.

Names … wonder why …

17 01 2008

During these past four years, I discovered the general naming conventions that people use for certain names. I was not aware of this when I was in Malaysia, maybe because I do not know many people with Christian names. Or is it because theaw naming conventions are only generally known in the US?

If people call themselves Bill, most probabaly their name is William. This makes sense to me as instead of two syllables (Wil-liam), you can use one syllable(Bill) . Hmm … although I think that calling William, Will instead of Bill makes more sense and much more intuitive. However, I accept Bill with no issues.

Then, there  is Bob for Robert. It took me some time to realize this. Once again, I think that Rob is a better choice for Robert compared to Bob. I wonder why not Rob for Robert? Maybe R is hard to pronounce for some people? Or maybe because Rob has a negative connotation, as in steal? But, I can accept Bob for Robert. No problem.

However, I DO NOT understand why Chuck is for Charles ?? *Confused Confused*……… Okay,  so Chuck has one syllable and Charles has two. But they sound so different!

The most I-do-not-understand-why one is Dick for Richard! This is so bizarre! I totally don’t get this one. *Helplessly LOST!!!!………….*I guess Dick saves one syllable, but it still does not make sense to me. Dick has a vulgar connotation too! Some people also call Rich for Richard. This is obviously a better choice: sounds great and intuitive. Rich is certainly better than Dick. Don’t know who started calling the latter for Richard.

Patch Adams!

15 01 2008

I like this movie A LOT, so I have to write about this movie. Patch Adams, starring Robin Williams is about a guy who is in a mental hospital because he is suicidal. There, he helped the other mates and realize he has a passion for helping other people. He believes a doctor is suppose to improve the quality of life and making other people happy. He set up Gesundheit! Institute, which provides free service to the patient. And, a big portion of the movie is actually based on a TRUE person, Hunter Campbell “Patch” Adams . Great man!

I think that this movie is similar (subjective and opened to various interpretations) to Forest Gump and Jack. Like both of them.  Forest Gump, starring Tom Hanks is about the life of a man who has IQ 75. Very interesting and funny. Jack starring Robbin Williams, is about a young boy who has a rare aging disease which makes him age four times faster than normal. The scary thing is according to Wikipedia, this disease is “somewhat similar to Werner syndrome.” :o Many weird diseases out there.

I generally like movies which star Robin Williams or Tom Hanks! Bicentennial Man, starring Robbin Williams is about a robot lah, a robot who has emotion. Other notable mention is Cast Away, satarring Tom Hanks is about one FedEx employee who is stranded in an island 1500 days. He is the only human on the island, and his bast mate is a basketball *Wilson the Volleyball. This is an entertaining movie.

:)

Mock funerals ??!!

13 01 2008

Mock funerals give ‘dearly departed’ new outlook on life. This article made me go WHAT??! Okay that makes sense, but still…

Apparently this is a new trend in South Korea. I have never heard of it until I read this article. Have you heard? In short,  the participants read their wills and climb into the coffins. In the coffin, they reflect their life : past, future, present for about 15 minutes and then they come out reborn.

According to the article, Samsung Electronics sent some of their employees to this ritual, and they became more efficient after that. Another participant commented,  “I’ll live differently from now on so as not to have any regrets about my life.” So, this ritual bore good results.

Being superstitious, I do not feel comfortable doing this. Okay, maybe being too supertitious is not a good thing, but that is another story. Anyways, I guess you when you read about how lifes are lost on the newpapers or Internet because of accidents, etc, these stories will have an impact on you: realising how delicate life is and the future is unpredictible, does not necessarily go  according to our plan etc etc. And at that moment, we will appreciate life and people around us more, be a better person and live life like there is no tomorrow so that there will be no regrets, etc etc. I guess, the impact is not as strong and lasting as if you experience death yourself.

On a lighter note, I have finished reading ‘Angels and Demons’ by Dan Brown, since My Chien mentioned that it is a great book. Yup, I like every bit of it. It is a great thiller!

Longer life

Habits which give you extra 14 years of life

Just four simple habits!

Time to hit the GYM!

Too much fish is hazardous

According to an article, consuming fish three to four times a week is beneficial, but if more than that, you will be loaded with mercury.  Yikes, my fish consumption is not optimum,  just twice a week. Need to eat more fish!

Best solution? Take supplements.

Quoted from the article,

“If fish can harbor toxins, it seems plausible that the oils extracted from fish to make
supplements might be contaminated, but that’s not the case. “Fish oils are pure,” says Connor.”
