Hmm …end of July already?

29 07 2008

So… I lost my keys! Other than all the inconvenience this caused and also the fear of ppl breaking in …. I can’t check my  mailbox, which is a bummer. :( Everyday, after work, I will check my mailbox, without fail. I love doing that, anticipating any interesting letters (which is very very rare), and also those promotion pamplets! So san fu, no pamplets to read! :P Hopefully it will turn up soon.

Yesterday, I saw a very BIG spider in my room. Sorry Cheng Loon, I did not let it go. It was vacuumed. I am very very afraid of spiders. So geli! After searching online, I think that the spider I encountered was a brown recluse spider, which is dangerous. This weekend, there will be a spider-proof/elimination/riddance session. On top of my weekend-to-buy-list is Lemon Pledge, Citronella oil or candle and Pest Offence (will consider this) Hopefully these works!

gas price … air gauge …

22 07 2008

Gas price is rocket high .. People try to find ways to spend less on gas. Radio stations frequently air tips on methods to reduce spending on gas. One of the method is to ensure that you tires are well inflated.

Heeding their advice, I want to get an tire gauge. I always read reviews of the product online before purchasing it. I came across a tire gauge an Amazon. There are people who complained about the product , claiming that the gauge malfunctioned, always giving a reading of 28.5 psi. A smart reviewer solved their problems! Read the solution here. Scroll down to customer reviews and the solution is the first review listed. It is pretty funny! :)

Watched “Dark Knight” and “Hellboy II” last weekend. I still like Ironman better! Maybe I am biased, coz I ate popcorn when I watched Ironman. :P

That was when we were younger, i.e. time when we were still playing Barbie dolls :) Oh, how I envied that she and Sam had all those Barbie gadgets, like car, stove set ( if I rememberd correctly ), a lot of shoes and clothes. They even had Barbie Ken!  However, I did not feel deprived of these Barbie gadgets as they let me play with them too..  :)   Opps, I am digressing. Back to my dedication.

She WAS bossy.

Japantown Obon Festival

12 07 2008

A few days ago, I was finding things to do for this weekend and I came across Japantown Obon Festival in San Jose. The description reads, “The largest Japantown cultural happening of the year features food, dancers, music and more. Featuring performances from the Chidori Band, San Jose Taiko, Jodaiko and Asayake Taiko.”

Sounds fun! :)

BINGO game in process ;p A lot of people in a tent, mostly youngsters, playing BINGO. This is my first time seeing a BINGO game in a carnival. Very interesting.

Food court selling mostly Japanese food.

After much thought, we ended up getting a root beer float. ;p

When we reached there, there weren’t any performances. So disappointed. :( The event was quite small. There were about 10 booths. The main attraction for this event should be the performances. Should have checked the schedule first. We spent about ….. at most 30 minutes there ;p

We ended up going to Great Mall to do some shopping. ;p

Spam sushi. Don’t be deceived by it’s name or not-too-appetizing look. This is actually quite yummy. Bought this from Hawaiian BBQ food court in Great Mall. ;p

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Vallejo

6 07 2008

It is a bad idea to consume tea/coffee at night. It is 5 am now, and I could not sleep! …. Luckily tmr is Sunday. Phew! If it is weekday tmr, I can foresee one whole day of grumpiness and un-productivity. I have been browsing Friendster, Facebook, Halloween costumes and other totally unimportant stuffs.

———————————–

A group of us went to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo (about 1 hour north from my place) on Independence Day. Too bad Std did not join us. It would be more fun with him around. :P For those who have never heard of Six Flags, according to Wikipedia, “Six Flags, Inc (commonly Six Flags) is one of the world’s largest chain of amusement parks and theme parks based on quantity of properties.”

Sea of people

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is an amusement and animal park, so this place is very suitable for families with small children.

Parents can park their babies here while they enjoy themselves. ;P

Sylvester!! I actually have to look up the character’s name online. Gosh, how can I forget its name?! Tsk tsk. The person inside the mascot must be sweating profusely! It was quite a hot day.

ykc is also taking pic on the background.

Camels are really aloof animals. Very cool. Look at the awkward position of its hind legs. Doesn’t look too comfortable, does it?

These mist/cooling machines are a big hit on that hot day.. Ah.. felt so comfortable after the mist therapy..

Presenting kke, its faithful client.

SIx Flags is popular for its roller-coasters. It may not be too obvious from my post so far. :P I can’t believe I did not take any pictures of the roller coasters! We spent most of our time at the animal park, going for shows such as Dolphin Encounter Experience and Killer Whale Show. I only went for three rides.

Photo from Wikipedia. Wikipedia says, “Medusa is the longest roller coaster in Northern California”. I certainly did not feel it was long, considering we waited for about an hour to get on this ride. ;P

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Vallejo is a great place for families. There are varies attractions to cater people of different ages. However, if you are solely interested in adrenaline pumping rides, it is recommended that you look for other SIx Flags parks.

Ramblings

2 07 2008

A few weeks ago, I saw a person cried with joy because of her whole-birthday-celebration-thing. Her birthday celebration was certainly a memorable one for her. :) How often do you see ppl with joy? This makes me wonder, when was the last time I cried because of sheer happiness or because I felt touched?

I could not really remember when was the most recent cried-with-joy-incident, but I do remember *almost* shedding my tears many years back. The incident was when my mom came to my primary school to bring me some tid-bits during “Hari Kanak-kanak Sedunia”.  We were having an assembly that time, and I saw her walking passed the assembly room.  She caught my eye and made some hand gestures towards the bag of goodies she was holding, and then walked away. Some time after that, she walked passed the the assembly room again and waved goodbye. I felt really touched and *almost* shed my tears (do not remember if I cried). I don’t know why I felt so touched by this incident, but I did. :)

Going to Six Flags this Friday! Yay! :) The old me will feel very excited and can’t wait to go on the rides. Hehe. This time, however, I am not sure if I dare to go on rides which look too adrenaline-pumping. I guess age is catching up.. :P The main reason for this is actually because, now, I am really skeptical about the safety of those rides. …. :P

Filoli

1 07 2008

Went to Filoli two weeks ago. Filoli? What is that? I have never heard of this place until PK suggested us going there. According to its website, Filloli is recognized as one of the finest remaining historical country estates of the early 20th century. The attractions there are “The Garden” and “The House”.

The first things that attracted my attention was these well-maintained vintage cars. I do not think they are part of Filoli as they were found at the parking area.

“The Garden” is really nice and well-kept! When we first entered the garden area, all of us ooh-ed and ahh-ed and wah-ed.. The area is not very big as we were able to complete the tour of the garden in about an hour.
