So Proud

30 08 2008

Coz I managed to changed the brake light of my car! I categorized this post as “Milestones”. A-hem :) Not an easy feat, okay? Hmm, maybe it wasn’t that hard. :P

———————————

Those deers I saw last time actually always hang out around this area. They quite frequently laze around the back of my apartment building. Also, I have seen then walking along the pavement, grazing stuffs from people’s garden. :P

Ta-da!

Dun worry.. See, I ration the amount of ice-cream. Use a super small cup fill it up till the brim, and you will trick your brain to think that you ate a lot of ice-cream… Okay, maybe this does not work every time as sometimes I have more than one “cup” of ice-cream. :)

Jalan-jalan at San Francisco

27 08 2008

Went to SF on Saturday with A, I, kke and WJ. Thanks to A who organized this! I have been wanting to go to SF, but the plan was postponed indefinitely. The reason for this is because it is crazy to drive and find parking spot around SF, which means we have to go by public transportation. But then, I am lazy to find out how to get around SF using public transportation. :P

We walked around The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. This market is held both in front of the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero and on the rear plaza overlooking the Bay. Most of the booths sell organic food. Most of the booths have samplings! :) So you get to taste before you buy.

Ferry Plaza Farmers Market outside Ferry Building

Organic flowers!! Hmm, organic flowers?

Honey in VARIOUS flavors *and colorings* ! Raspberry, orange, peach, pina colada, lemon, lime, peppermint, chocolate, root beer, cranberry, blueberry …okay, you get the idea.

Then, we walked around Ferry Building Marketplace. According to www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com, ” Located within the historic Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street, shops large and small celebrate food in all its forms, offering everything from artisan cheeses to the freshest of local fish.” They sell high-class food.

The many types of Mushrooms

Then, we w a l k e d towards Telegraph Hill. We also c l i m b e d up Telegraph Hill using Filbert Steps to reach Coit Tower . Climbed up the stairs la. I would say it was a great workout! However, the only minus point is that I sweated. :( I just do.not.like to sweat. :P . The hill offers fantastic views of San Francisco including the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, the Bay Bridge and Lombard Street.

Before our *climb*. Coit Tower on the background. Seems sooooo far up!

Took some pics on Filbert Steps.

According to Wikipedia,”The Filbert Street Steps runs along a short section of Filbert Street. Along the steps is a garden tended to and paid for by the residents of the street. The steps lead from Telegraph Hill down to The Embarcadero. Many houses in this residential neighborhood are accessible only from the steps.”

The gardens are really nice…and the smell of flowers was really pleasant. Made the climb more enjoyable and interesting. I sweated though :(

View of Lombard Street (jalan bengkang-bengkok) from Telegraph Hill.

After enough rest on Telegraph Hill, we headed for North Beach (San Francisco’s Little Italy). Along the way, kke needed some sugar boost as he was tooooo hungry to continue the walk to Chinatown. We stopped to get gelato. I love ice-creams, so I had no complains. :)

Segway gang

St. Peter and Paul Church on the background. Some art show going on. The pieces sold here are quite mahal. Not just any vendors selling pictures. There are many vendors selling pictures/paintings of SF around SF. :P

Walking in Chinatown is just like walking in Petaling Street. Can find shops selling imitation products. :) Going into some of the shops in Chinatown was also very entertaining as the products sold were really interesting. Such as this.

Do you need this?

I was trying very hard to get a nice picture of the cable cars. They reminded me of the Pittsburgh Molly’s Troleys. After many attempts… ta-da

Took this pic in Chinatown. This cable car is not our notion of Genting suspended cable cars. The SF cable cars are on the roads.

Transamerica Pyramid at the background

Our next destination is Union Square District. Except from here, “Experience the unique character of San Francisco’s Union Square District, where the best names in fashion, dining and theater have resided for over a hundred years.” One can find shops like Montblanc, Ghiradelli Chocolate, Tiffany & Co, Bulgari and Saks Fifth Avenue here.

There was a China Out of Tibet protest in Union Square. On the truck there was a banner which says “China out of Tibet”. We moved on before there were too many poeple gathered for this demonstration.

At this point, we are all tired and cranky ppl. The weather was also getting colder. We headed for United Nations Plaza and San Francisco City Hall

It is Sunday …

17 08 2008

I am consciously trying to be healthy and stay youthful *ahem*. Below are some of the steps taken in order to achieve them.

1. Satin Pillowcase

I recently bought 1000 thread count sateen pillowcases. Realized that I should have bought satin pillowcase. Sateen is made of cotton and satin is made of materials like silk and nylon. This is to prevent sleep winkles. Did you notice that there are lines on the side of your face which you sleep on when you wake up in the morning? This may promote wrinkles. So a satin pillowcase is good as it is smooth and your face will slide instead of being stretched on it. Of course, sleeping on you back is the best to prevent sleep wrinkles. :)

2. Fruits

Self explanatory. I was making smoothie when I broke my blender. Usually brings fruits to work as snack on. :)

3. Dark chocolate

Lowers blood pressure. However, this is tricky for me as I could not control my chocolate consumption. I ate 2 bars of dark chocolate in 3 days!

… and others like eat vitamins, exercise, have enough sleep, drink enough water …etc etc

Contemplating of getting rollerblades. Should I or should I not?

San Mateo County Fair

14 08 2008

Was just like PESTA PD! Miss those pesta-s. Watched my first circus there. :)

Dinner before going to the fair. Yummy! Ate at a place called Kobeya. Nothing fancy and the food is not pricey.

We bought tickets to watch a concert in the fair. I did not rally pay attention to who are performing that night, since I would think that the performers wouldn’t really be popular? We reached at the fair about 1.5 hrs before the concert, so that we would have some time to walk around the fair. I was sooo surprised to see quite a long line formed towards the concert entrance. Wow, this better be good. I looked at my GOLD VIP CIRCLE pass.

“Village People and KC & the Sunshine Band”. Hmm… nvr heard of them (Well, that’s not surprising since I do not even follow the current entertainment news)

Sample some banana smoothie while waiting in queue

Village People! Crowd doing the Y.M.C.A. -thing. I am sure you have heard of that song? No? Village People are popular during their time.

Excerpt from Wikipedia:

Village People are a concept disco group formed in the late 1970s. Village People scored a number of disco and dance hits, including their trademark “Macho Man”, “Go West”, the classic club medley of “San Francisco (You’ve Got Me) / In Hollywood (Everybody is a Star)”, “In the Navy”, “Can’t Stop the Music”, “Sex Over the Phone” and their biggest hit, “Y.M.C.A.”

KC and the Sunshine Band! I actually recognized some of the songs! “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty” and “Please Don’t Go”. :)

Quote from KC “I am your mother’s Justim Timberlake”. :P They are really popular during the 70-s. I deduced from the fact that there were ppl shouting “I love you” during the performance. Not only that, there were quite a number of ppl who danced to the beat.

Excerpt from Wikipedia:

KC and the Sunshine Band is an American musical group. Founded in 1973, their style has included funk, R&B, and disco. Their most well known songs include the disco hits “That’s the Way (I Like It)”, “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty”, “I’m Your Boogie Man”, “Keep It Comin’ Love”, “Get Down Tonight”, “Give It Up” “Please Don’t Go”.

Both of these bands are popular during the late 70-s and 80-s. That explained why the crowd were mostly older people. Maybe 10-20 years down the road, I will attend Westlife and ‘N SYNC concerts. :P

Pony ride

Erm..getting up?

The pig is REALLY greedy. I could not get his attention. We actually missed the pig race event! Cute chicks! :P

We should have gone to the fair earlier! Since we did not expect a long queue to the concert, we were not able to walk around the fair before the concert, and the concert eneded at about 10-ish p.m. A lot of booths were closed at that time. Oh well, can go again next year!

What do I see from my apartment complex?

3 08 2008

Deers (I think) ! Yah, the picture is a bit dark, I don’t want to scare those deers with my flash, do I?

No, I do not have a balcony in my apartment. This pic was taken from the apartment complex hallway.

Hope to see them more often! :)
