My exasperating relationship with junk-ies

5 04 2009

I felt something was amiss the whole of last week as there was no junk food available at home. There was just a tube of ice-cream. During grocery shopping on Sunday, I was busy looking for the perfect junk food, which was suppose to keep me company for a week. While walking down the aisle, I saw this! I immediately put it in my cart. So happy!

Hmm, this should be sufficient for the whole week. My plan was to slowly savor 2 cookies a day. These to me are rich and high quality cookies, so need to slowly enjoy them. However, I finished them in 2 days! How unhealthy was that?! Yes, I am worried about diabetes.

I consider myself quite a strong-willed person, except when it comes to dessert/junk-food. I have absolutely no will-power when it comes to that. :P

I slowly nibble at my first cookie, keeping in mind that I am only suppose to have two pieces. After finishing 2 cookies, I thought, hmm…why not 2 more? No harm to that….And this continued a few more times… Not to mentioned my nibbling progressed to munching and to chomping the more cookies I ate. I felt really full and do not enjoy the cookies anymore but for some unexplainable reasons, my hand kept reaching for the cookies and I kept swallowing them in. This is perplexing.! These cookies are really rich and filling.

Oh well, I need more junk food!

Yummy pineapple tarts …

31 01 2009

.. or at least I think so :) Have been eating them non-stop.

I plan to make this a yearly affair. Last year, I also baked pineapple tarts, using the same recipe. It just takes too long to bake these yummy star-shaped tarts. I took almost 4 hrs! Pineapple means “ong” (prosperity).

Crepes and impulse buying

5 10 2008

We went to eat crepes recently. They are very similar to pancakes, except that they very thin. Crepes come in generally two flavors, savory and sweet. Having a sweet tooth, I always order sweet crepe. Why am I talking about crepes? Coz, it was so delicious and pretty! Feel like posting a photo of it. :)

Crepe with nutella, banana, stawberries and ice-cream! Yummy! Heart Nutella

I love to walk around Dollar Tree store. It has many interesting stuffs. Although I do not really need some of the stuffs I bought from there, but impulse buying at Dollar Tree is …acceptable… ? Since the goods sold are only $1 each!

I saw this!

A very beautiful pet bed! When I saw it, I was skeptical that it was only $1. However, it should be cheap, since it is sold in Dollar Tree. I was wondering if I should get it. Then, being rational, I continued perusing others stuffs in the shop since I do not own a pet. However, I kept thinking about the pet bed.

In the end, I can’t resist the pet bed and got it. While queueing to ask the cashier the price of the bed, I was wondering what is the maximum price I should pay for the bed (since I do not have a pet). It is only $1!!! :)

Pappu looking happy and contented on his new bed :)

Dun worry.. See, I ration the amount of ice-cream. Use a super small cup fill it up till the brim, and you will trick your brain to think that you ate a lot of ice-cream… Okay, maybe this does not work every time as sometimes I have more than one “cup” of ice-cream. :)

It is Sunday …

17 08 2008

I am consciously trying to be healthy and stay youthful *ahem*. Below are some of the steps taken in order to achieve them.

1. Satin Pillowcase

I recently bought 1000 thread count sateen pillowcases. Realized that I should have bought satin pillowcase. Sateen is made of cotton and satin is made of materials like silk and nylon. This is to prevent sleep winkles. Did you notice that there are lines on the side of your face which you sleep on when you wake up in the morning? This may promote wrinkles. So a satin pillowcase is good as it is smooth and your face will slide instead of being stretched on it. Of course, sleeping on you back is the best to prevent sleep wrinkles. :)

2. Fruits

Self explanatory. I was making smoothie when I broke my blender. Usually brings fruits to work as snack on. :)

3. Dark chocolate

Lowers blood pressure. However, this is tricky for me as I could not control my chocolate consumption. I ate 2 bars of dark chocolate in 3 days!

… and others like eat vitamins, exercise, have enough sleep, drink enough water …etc etc

Contemplating of getting rollerblades. Should I or should I not?

Strolling down the snack aisle

25 06 2008

Strolling down the aisles in an asian store is fun. You get to see different types of food which hails from all over … well … Asia.

My favourite aisle is the SNACK / JUNK FOOD / TIDBITS of coz! :)

You can get “Seasoned Scallop”. I think it should read “Seasoned Scallop”

Almonds with ..anchovies?? :o

And some cute seaweed snack :)

YUMMY

Weekend

5 05 2008

On Friday evening, I had dinner at a place called Chelokababi Restaurant. The reason of me mentioning this? Well, it’s name sounds like “Cela** ba**” Haha.. ya syok sendiri

On Saturday, we went to Computer Museum History Center. Boring, you might say… It is INTELLECTUAL. :P The main reason we went there was because we thought there will be a special exhibition, “The Babbage Exhibition”, but alas, we got the wrong date. It starts next weekend. :( The museum is quite interesting. List: 1971 machine with over 120 miles of hand-wired interconnections; 1969 Kitchen computer priced at $10,600 for housewives to store and retrieve recipes. The user interface was only binary lights and switches (Not too user friendly) Apparently, there is no evidence that any of this was sold; One of first Google Data Center.

At night, we went to Abyss to work-out.

Everyone looking angelic in white

Currently reading books by Nicholas Spark. I read “The Notebook” a few weeks ago. I love his style of writing so much that I borrowed all the books written by him from the library. Touching stories.

Delectable fondue

5 05 2008

I just HAVE to post these dessert pictures! So pretty! :) We had YL’s birthday celebration at The Melting Pot a.ka. fondue place.

Yin & Yang : Dark and milk chocolate… Love dark chocolate… Yummy

Mouth-watering desserts!

These desserts made my day! It’s divine. This romantic place is a definitely a great place if you want to impress someone or if there is any special occasion. And of course, if you are rich, coz it is really pricey (for my standard :) )! In my humble opinion, the cheese fondue is something different but taste alright. For the entree, steamboat is much better!

I’m officially a fei po

1 05 2008

Ya, I am! Well, I know I am steadily gaining weight … hmm.. about 8 pounds heavier compared to July last year! How about that? I am in denial, relying on the excuse that my weighing machine is not showing the truth, since it is so cheap. Then, I weighed myself at YL’s place. About the same result, but then again, her weighing scale is cheap too! ;P But, after weighing on CK’s expensive digital scale, … well … I feel like fei po lor.

But no worries, I am aware of my situation and have been dieting since forever, but still gaining weight. Why? Kenot control ler. My dad knows me best. Every time I mentioned about dieting to him, he will laugh at me. That’s my reputation regarding this issue. Coz he knows I do not stick to the plan at all. You might be thinking, just 8 pounds, what is the big deal? Well, dear, I have been gaining weight, although I am consciously trying to lose weight. Hmm… maybe 8 pounds is not that bad.

I just L.O.V.E chocolates, desserts or generally anything sweet. Neslo for breakfast, Pocky before lunch, some mini chocolates(Crunch, M&M’s, Baby Ruth, Snickers) for tea, choc/coffee ice-cream or Julie’s love letters(choc flavor of coz) for supper. How can this diet work? But, I do not foresee this eating habit will change much. ;P

Watched Iron Man on Wednesday. I LIKE! :) Great movie…Makes me feel like a kid again! Steven Spielberg, is truly a gifted man. Somehow Iron Man reminds me of X-Men and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Love those too.

Have been feeling really worried about my H1B situation. My full-time job these few days is to refresh my H1B status page. The attorney and his assistant are very responsive to my emails, so, that’s nice. :)

Pineapple rolls/tarts and zinnia

6 04 2008

I love pineapple cookies! It does not matter it it is pineapple roll or tart, as they taste as good to me! The best pineapple rolls I have eaten before are made my Jolene. I love the crumbly crust and she always make it during CNY. It was long ago since I last tasted her pineapple rolls. I wanted to learn to make this dessert eons ago, but well, I was lazy, until yesterday! :) For cake and cookies, I usually always just get ones which are pre-mixed and just require you to add oil, water and egg. Fool-proof. I bought my first kitchen scale, just for these pineapple cookies! I got the recipe here.

It was tedious but worth it! Each piece of cookie is hard work and I actually felt a teeny weeny bit of reluctance to eat too many cookies as I want to be able to enjoy them as long as possible. I have never experienced this feeling before! Before this, if I have a box of pineapple rolls/tarts, I can finish them in one day. Self-control? You must be kidding!

It was a very long process, as I made the dough 3 times! For the 1st batch, only 1/6 of pineapple jam is used along with the dough. The 2nd batch used up the butter and flour in my pantry, and I have to buy butter and flour for the 3rd batch.. This took all day!

No quality control. Inconsistent sizes. The 1st were
too big ( the two rolls in the middle ). I learned from my mistake
and the 2nd batch is bite size.

The dough for the 3rd batch was too crumbly
and I ended up making tarts instead

Meet the new addition to the family, Zanny zinnia! Hopefully Zanny will bloom into a beautiful flower.

Zinnia in her packaging

The background is the curtain I just bought to divide my hall and dining area. I looked high and low for the rod because I do not want to make a hole on the wall. We use double sided tape and a lot of cellophane tape to make the rod stay in place. We had to get a not-too-heavy curtain, thus this sheer curtain.

Zanny beside Mr. Bamboo. Mr. Bamboo has blossom into
a handsome one. Nurturing Mr. Bamboo is definitely fool-porof.
